That's right folks, I make bread. Me, myself, I, Rachel - & it's none of that bread machine stuff. I've been making this bread for about 2 weeks now and it actually comes out so yummy every time.
And that is a miracle in and of itself because the last time I made bread was way back in High School & it didn't turn out (my dad called it toast bread) so I decided that maybe yeast & me just don't work well together.
I know some of you may be saying so, what's the big deal I make bread all the time. Well to me having bread actually turn out & taste good.
Can I get a hallelujah here! ;)
Amish White Bread
2 cups warm water
2/3 cup white sugar
1 1/2 tablespoons active dry yeast
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1/4 cup vegetable oil
6 cups bread flour
In a large bowl, dissolve the sugar in warm water, and then stir in yeast.
Allow to proof until yeast resembles a creamy foam. Mix salt and oil into the yeast.
Mix in flour one cup at a time. Knead dough on a lightly floured surface until smooth. Place in a well oiled bowl, and turn dough to coat.
Cover with a damp cloth. Allow to rise until doubled in bulk, about 1 hour. Punch dough down. Knead for a few minutes, and divide in half. Shape into loaves, and place into two well oiled 9x5 inch loaf pans. Allow to rise for 30 minutes, or until dough has risen 1 inch above pans. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.
Edited to Add: I mix in all my flour and then leave it in my Kitchen Aid and let it beat the crap out of it for 8 minutes, then I take it out and hand knead it for 2 more minutes on a lightly floured surface.
Then, let it do the whole rise thing.
