It is exactly 1 year ago today that I found out I was pregnant with Addison. And talk about a shock. Lloyd and I had tossed around the idea of another baby after Corbin's arrival, we thought he was the last. but after bringing him home we both know otherwise, but had decided to take the wait and see how we feel as he got older approach.
Well I think someone else had other plans for us....
(Keep in mind at this time I was in the middle of a not so good depression so having a baby for me was so completely not in the cards).
Anyway, I had a dream the night before that I knew, I just knew I was pregnant & I was up at one of our local nursing home (don’t ask me why) trying to get them to let me use their bathroom so I could pee on the pregnant test. They wouldn’t let me use their facilities, so I went to the house next door (yes still weird) and they wouldn’t let me either. But in my dream I JUST KNEW I WAS Pregnant AND IT WAS A GIRL. Anyhow I wake up from this dream thinking WOW that was SO WEIRD.
I told my friend Bridget in our daily conversation about my strange dream and I think we just laughed it off. Well later that day I happen to go to the Dollar Tree to pick up some pencils and such for the kids & as I was getting ready to go check out I happened to walk by the pregnancy tests. Now really to this day I have know idea why I picked one up because I knew there was no way I could be preggers as we were using birth control. But I bought the test anyway thinking ehh who cares it’s only a buck.
Well I take it home and take it later that day and wouldn’t you know it 2 lines appear.
Okay I am thinking NO FREAKING WAY this is a dollar tree test it must be wrong, so I call Bridget back and ask what her success rate has been with these cheap tests. And she said that they didn’t work for her either. So I figured it’s just a cheap test that gives wrong results, but better be safe then sorry and go to Wal-Mart and buy a real test.
Fast forward to that evening- Lloyd comes home and is “trying” to be flirty I proceed to tell him that he MAY have done enough damage already. The look on his face was priceless. So I take him to the bathroom and show him the cheap test and he said are you going to Wal-Mart to get a real test and I said is the Pope Catholic? I’m pretty sure that I didn’t eat dinner, I just ran to the store & bought a 3 pack of EPT tests. I came home and waited until the kids were in bed and had a moment to myself.
Then on March 6th at 9:50 p.m I saw the test with 2 yes 2 lines (& yes I looked at the time and wrote it on my calendar). I kinda freaked out just a little bit at this point and I took the stick and stood in front of my sleeping on the couch husband and proceeded to shake him and put that test as close to his eyeballs as possible and said, HOW DID THIS HAPPEN!?! Seriously! We were preventing children, not opening the door to the house and saying come on in! He woke up fast, saw the results and said take one in the morning and see if it’s different. Well we all know that it’s not going to change. What are they odds you get 2 false positives. So I had 4 tests as of the morning of the 7th all telling me all the same thing I was pregnant with our 5th child.
Fast forward a month. I had at this point my first Dr. Appointment on my birthday no less. Nothing like have a pap smear, a breast exam and an ultrasound on your birthday, talk about memorable. And I came home with the ultrasound picture and put it away. I was so in denial. It’s not just a state of mind, IT IS a place.
Anyway I eventually came around to the baby idea, say around June when I finally post the above ultrasound on my blog andI have to say I COULDN'T GIVE THIS LITTLE GIRL UP TO SAVE MY LIFE. I am so grateful she is here. WE LOVE, LOVE, LOVE her. We know she was suppose to come to our house and am very glad that Heavenly Father sent her when he did. Even though at the time I thought he had a terrible sense of humor.I think she was just what I needed at the moment, my depression never
got any worse as the Dr. thought it might especially after giving birth. I've
for the most part been Stable Mable.
Phew, there is the story of how I found out I
was having our little girl. I had to write it out for posterity purposes,
hopefully she won't look back and think she was not wanted because she so IS!
Even the bigger kids say we like her more, because I post more on my blog about
her. Well that’s not the case she is just changing more than they are at this
point in her life. And speaking of change she is little Miss Mobile now. She was
rolling from back to front all day as of yesterday. Crazy how fast they grow up. She is such a happy & fun baby too, she always has a smile on her face.
Addison We Love You! How could you not, just look at that little face! :)
I wish they had dollar store prego tests back when! Didn't know they even carried them that is so cool. I remember calling to tell you i was prego with macy and you calling back that same day to tell me you were prego with parker. At least Addison has a cool story. Both of mine were planned and we got pregnant right away with both. Boring! :) She is cute!
ReplyDeleteI loved this post! I loved reading your story. March 7th was also a big day for me and I had many of the same feelings. I am posting about it tomorrow too! Ironic huh?
ReplyDeleteI am so grateful that Heavenly Father knows me better than I know myself. I never in a million years would have thought I was capable of dealing with my situation but its been the best thing I never knew I wanted.
You also brought back many memories of peeing on those pregnancy tests! On my first baby I peed on one and got a postive but did not believe it because the darn test was expired! I had to buy three more!
Sorry for the book!
I meant to type March 11th. Opps!
ReplyDeleteThat last picture of Addison is so cute. Doesn't it seem like the people that think they're done having kids end up accidentally pregnant and the people that want more kids struggle to get pregnant or miscarry. Maybe I should make myself "think" that we're done having kids so we'll get pregnant and stay pregnant.
ReplyDeleteI found out I was pregnant with Rylan the same day! I was just thinking to myself wow, it's been a YEAR since I found out I was pregnant. I was thinking it was a possibility because we were trying but it wasn't happening so I just bought a 2 pack from Wal Mart to be safe. Both positives. I couldn't possibly be pregnant, there was no way, so I got the digitals. Both of those said "pregnant". Then I went to the doc, it was positive.
ReplyDeleteI can still remember the day...a trip to wal mart with 2 kids in tow, yea they're gonna think I'm nucking futs!

Yah, Our little ones come to us usually by surprise, but we so love them. I don't know what I would do without my 3. They bring us more happiness than we thought ever possible. Being a mom is one of the most important things I will ever do. We are all so lucky. You have a beautiful 5. I am so glad to hear you are so in love with your kids.
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures Rach! I love to read your blog its so fun to read. I can't believe how fast Addison is growing its crazy.
ReplyDeletewhat a fun story! She's darling...
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading your story. Well, obviously she was supposed to come to your family, and I'm sure your kids, especially your daughter, are so happy too.
ReplyDeletehi.
ReplyDeletehope you don't mind I stop by.
I'm waiting for thing like this. knowing an (un)expected pregnancy. coz I actually still want to have another baby, but in other side I think it would be hard.
so I use birth control, but still let God to decide do I deserve another baby or not...
she's so lovely...
How sweet is that!
ReplyDeleteThe Lord works in mysterous ways isn't he great!
