My Baby Is Broken!

EDITED: Okay so it's not only when she cries, she just woke up from her nap HAPPY and was just talking to herself and she's got RED all over her face.. Off I go to call her pediatrician. 2nd EDIT: OKAY I AM SUCH A DORK!!! This is my official BAD MOMMY MOMENT, Addison is on Amoxicillin (yes i forget to mention) and maybe she is having an allergic reaction to the RX. Sorry about not mentioning details like that. I had NO sleep last night and I think it's starting to show. Well, there's the nurse ringing my phone gotta go.
This RED THING started yesterday afternoon and it only happens to her when she cries. At first I thought it was the detergent in my shirt or maybe on her blanket. Nope! She was crying on the floor and when I went to get her, her face was covered in red and on the red parts there are little raised bumps that are kinda white. WHAT IS GOING ON HERE! It goes away after 45 minutes or so but then re-appears when she cries. Oh and it is only on her face and head. Different spots every time and the red is more red than the pictures are showing. I am so confused! Has anyone out there had this happen to their little one??? Inquiring minds want to know. She's kinda freaking me out! Side note: She has only had breast milk or formula.....
EDIT #2 It's official Addison is Allergic to Amoxicillin!

  1. This is so bizarre. I had all sorts of ideas UNTIL you said it comes and goes and is only when she cries. I am totally lost now. I just hope you figure it out! She is still SOO cute even red and blotchy!

  2. That is scary. I would take her in to the doctor and show him those pics. I thought at first maybe little carpet bugs bit her. If you think it's affecting her appetite I would take her in. Sorry I can help. Does she have a fever with it?

  3. Anything else going on with her, cough, runny nose, fever, diarrhea, anything?? I am not one to rush kids to the doctor however she is pretty little and the weekend is coming up. You might call her doctor and see if they think she should be seen in the clinic to save you an ER visit this weekend if it doesn't subside. Very odd! Keep us updated!

  5. Dermatology nurse to the rescue! If it were a reaction to amox. it would be all over her body however there is such a thing as fixed drug reaction syndrome. But if it's coming and going, my guess is it's viral. Facial skin is more sensitive and would pick this up more than the rest of her body. If it's only on the face, i say viral. My guess is she's running a low grade fever with it and if she is on amox in the first place, may have had a runny nose etc with it. And if it's viral she wouldn't have needed the amox in the first place but that's for the doctor to decide. Anyway, i say viral with nothing serious, it will come and go and then go away and as horrible as it looks won't be a problem to her internally etc and will be gone within 72 hours from whence it started. Let me know what the doctor thinks. If it lasts thru the weekend and doctor didn't know, take her to a dermatologist. Peds get rashes wrong so much. They're great for the general stuff but there's a reason there are specialties. Let me know how she is and what they say. Becca's guess: viral, will go away in 72 hours. Nothing to do for it, don't panic. By Monday she'll be fine. My only other thought would be 5ths disease but that doesn't go to the forehead and usually looks like just slapped cheeks and is also viral. It's the 5th rash little ones get, you know chicken pox, measles, mumps, something i forget and 5ths disease being the 5th. So it could be a different form of that but again viral. Ok i'll shut up now, let me know what they say.

  8. Actually, Kara had 5th disease all over her body, but that looks like a penicillin allergy. give her some benadryl. Watch the penicillin thing. it gets worse each time of exposure. I have a penicilling allergy, it is scary. keep a close eye on her breathing. A penicillin reaction can make the insides swell as well and cause breathing problems. Sorry, I missed your birthday, I have been meaning to call you all week. I knew it was your birthday on Wednesday, and I usually don't forget to call. Take care and let us all know how little Addison is doing.

  10. Rachel is allergic to amoxicillan (as am I) and breaks out in Hives when she takes it. That is a very common allergy...especially in my family.

  11. Has she had a fever? My little boys have had rashes after having a pretty high fever. The dr didn't seemed worried about it at all, and said that he sees it all the time. He said it was the body's way of getting rid of the fever.

    GOOD LUCK!

  12. I too would say it is an allergy to the amoxicillan. (That is what I looked like the one time that I took it.) Did your doctor tell you to stop giving it to her? Poor baby. . . I hope she is doing better.
