{ Ask & Ye Shall Receive! }

We talked about putting in a new pantry on the 1st and my husband went and bought the supplies on the 2nd and look what I have today! We have never had a pantry so having one now is a luxury in this old farm house. I need to go shopping for a new (used but new to us) door. We put the old one back on but I think it needs a change. Don't mind some of the pictures it was late and dark.
Our "front" door to our home is sadly enough in the laundry room. Talk about airing your dirty laundry when people come to visit!
And in the laundry room there are 2 doors, one that leads to the dining room/living room which is just to the left of the door shown & this door which leads to the kitchen.
We NEVER use the kitchen door so we decided it was time to put that space to use.
So enter our first project of 2010!
Framing is done!

Sheetrock!

And we have a pantry. We still have to put up some base moulding but I'm so excited about my new space. I love my handy husband!!
I have to say this is the best 100 bucks we ever spent!
Now I get to tear down the rest of the wall paper in the laundry room and then the kitchen (which I've already started if you can see that in the pic). Should make for a fun spring huh!? It's going to be the year of the inexpensive remodel. Don't worry I'll keep you in the loop of how things are progressing.. ;) Well, I better get back to finishing up Brinley's baptism stuff.

  1. This was a very smart move on your part! I wish I had a pantry. When we built the house I was more worried about counterspace. I have more than enough counterspace and two corner lazy susan's but I'd give up some of it for an actual pantry! Good for you. I'm getting ready to rip off a wallpaper border and patch pin holes in a bedroom and making it my sewing room. My son just left for 2 years on a mission for our church and so I'm stealing it until he comes home! Cindy

  2. I'm excited for you!

I thought of you as we drove through La Grand. I think that your town is sooo beautiful set in those mountains there. Oregon really is pretty!

  4. How exciting! It's the little things that make you super happy...for instance. My dad came and put up shelves in my cold storage. I almost cried...I was SO happy! I love the look on your daughters face on the ladder...too cute!

  11. I am with you, sister! When we had our kitchen re-done, all I asked for was a pantry. A real- honest- to- goodness- not- a- cabinet- but a pantry, pantry! Your husband is the best!!!

  17. Looks great! We dont have a real pantry either. We have some food in the kitchen cabinets and some in the hall closet which is directly across from the kitchen.

We dont use our front door either!

  18. Love it! I am a firm believer in the pantry. Can my brother come help us build a closet?

When are you doing the baptism?

  19. I cannot believe you didn't have a pantry! I can't imagine what my cupboards would look like if I didn't. Smart move on your part- you will love it. That's awesome that you have such a handy hubby too!

  20. Your pantry looks great! I am wondering though...where do you store canned goods? My pantry is about the same size as yours and it is chock full of dollar store baskets to organized canned foods, boxed foods and baking supplies...Love your blog!

  21. Hey, you should ask Glen when you are in search for things like a door or whatever. Sometimes the guys have stuff like that around the shop that they can't use or that we got off craigs list and decided not to use. Depending on what you want, they might just give it away to you. wouldn't hurt to ask! :) They might actually have a door. I thought I remembered having an extra one that we took to the shop from Craigs list cause it wasn't the right size or something.

  23. New to your blog-found you through the CTR towel post (which I love)
I actually really like the door you already had on. Have you considered frosting the glass and leaving behind the word "pantry"? It's pretty trendy right now and looks kind of out of place in some houses, but it seems perfect for an old farmhouse. I would love to have something like that in my old house! Just a suggestion since you're looking for something cheap, maybe even a temporary fix.

  25. Love that, Rachel!! Your husband rocks!! I would totally put a screen door on that pantry and would on our, but we have double doors and I would then have to actually keep my pantry organized. Oh the trouble!!

  26. I saw the coolest thing the other day in a decorating book: an old screen door as the pantry door. Like this:

Awesome, yes? And thrifty! Garage sales will likely have these or local classifieds and the like.
